HISTORY AND HERITAGE
Family History
 I am a modest
(amateur) genealogist. So far, with the help of other people, I have traced the various branches of my family back to 1640, recording almost 1,000 individuals in the process.
My main motivation is to be able to write the history of these families, bringing together disparate and geographically separate strands of humanity into a cohesive family story.
By taking a family tree, supporting evidence and anecdotes it is possible to write a detailed and interesting family history.
A narrative account can be much more instructive than a plain family tree or a computer database. It also allows you to add personal colour and anecdotes to your ancestors and share them with friends and family. By adding social and local detail to their basic pedigree, your ancestors can come to life.

Please note that I'm not a professional genealogist and can't help with or undertake family research. What I do is take information that you already have and help you shape it into a readable, exciting narrative story.
 Local History
I enjoy exploring the back streets wherever I travel. From Ashford to Arbroath, Malaga to Montrose and Southwold to Stanford. Whether it's a major city or an obscure village, I enjoy researching the detail and telling the hidden and personal stories that are uncovered.

By writing about a particular place, I'm often inspired to take a sideways look at something else, which then grows into an idea for another story or article. Often local history is closely linked to our own backgrounds or experiences and this is when real life inspires us to write the most moving stories, whether true or fictitious.
